Nagoya is famous as a Prefecture in Japan. However, you can also find a “Nagoya” in Batam, Indonesia.
Nagoya, Batam is the main town of this Indonesia Island. Nagoya is also known as Lubuk Baja here. It is the heart of Batam and its largest town. You can find many things in this town – shops, restaurants, hotels, cinemas, shopping plaza, food stalls, night markets and many more. It is also at the present Batam’s center of business, trade and finance.
Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall is the biggest mall in Batam.
There are 3 levels in this big building with shops selling everything from clothes, jewelry, handbags and electronics items. On the second level is large Matahari Department store. Hypermart is located at the basement of this mall. The food items in Hypermart are quite cheap and fresh. You can get many things from the hypermart – food, clothes, medicine, electronic and etc.
Anyway, the mall is not located on top of a hill. Actually there are no hill or steep slopes to climb to reach this shopping plaza.
Batu Ampar is the port of Nagoya. You can get a ferry from this port to Singapore, although not as frequently as from Sekupang and Batam Center. Several boats leave daily to Johor Baru in Malaysia as well from Batam.
Many places accept Singapore dollars as easily has Indonesian Rupiah as well as many banks and foreign exchange/money changers within Nagoya with competitive exchange rates.
